About the Author

David Gash is a 22 year old cricket enthusiast form Cork, Ireland. Growing up in a family of cricketers and living a stones throw from his local club, it is no wonder that this is the case. His first playing experience was that of being fielder/wicket keeper in the front garden as soon as he could walk – in other words he was sent to fetch the ball whenever one of his elder siblings hit it under the trees. Eventually he earned his stripes and was allowed to bat and bowl, albeit for short periods of time due to dubious LBW decisions and questionable catches.

David is a former club captain of Cork Harlequins CC, with whom he still plays. David has won numerous Munster titles with his club and has also competed in the Irish Senior Cup. He has also represented Munster from underage level up to senior (Munster Reds).

David is currently attending UCC where he is completing a BA in Geography. Cricket is not David’s only sport, he plays hockey with UCC Hockey Club where he is also a coach. He has a keen interest in sports journalism and has had articles appear in the Cork Evening Echo, the UCC Student Express, as well as various websites including Cricket Europe.

David was recently appointed as Munster Editor of the Cover Point website and Staff Sports Writer with UCC Online News.

David’s greatest cricketing memories are seeing Mathew Hayden score a century against New Zealand in Christ Church and taking part in a training session with Mark Waugh.
